Steve McCarthy, President

Steve McCarthy moved to San Francisco from the Boston area in 1994 to work for Oracle Corp.  He held a variety of positions until 2003 when he left in search of something different.  At the newly reopened Ferry Building and Farmer’s Market, he went to work for the fledgling Prather Ranch Meat Company, evangelizing about supporting small farms and ranches.  He became a co-owner, grew and professionalized the business significantly before again looking for something new.

Steve has recently been splitting time between SF and Seattle, where he has been learning how to build and repair wooden boats, combining a love of the water and a passion for  woodworking long put on hold.  He also enjoys cooking, mountain biking and seeing live music.

Steve holds a BA in English Literature and was recently awarded an Associate’s Degree of Applied Science in Marine Technology.

Steve and his wife are now leaving Seattle behind, heading home to live in San Francisco full time.  They live near the garden and have been members since 2011.  Steve is currently working on plans to open a small boat building shop in the Bayview neighborhood of SF.
